MarketSW Returns Friday Evening August 28
August 22, 2015
An increased food selection will be featured as the monthly MarketSW returns for its fourth installment 5 to 10 pm Friday, August 28 at Waterfront Station, 4th and M Streets, SW.
“Because of the great reception to our initial event in May, we added more exhibitors and attractions in June, kept it up in July; and foodies are going to love this round,” promised Michael Berman, President of Diverse Markets Management (DMM) which is collaborating with Art Whino impresario Shane Pomajambo to present “a festive event every fourth Friday through October,”
Berman said food options have been expanded from the first three events. Food trucks participating will be Nom Nom Gourmet, a Southeast Asian specialist which returns from July; DC Crab Cake N Co. ,selling Maryland crab cake and other sliders; and DC Pollo, serving Peruvian rotisserie. The latter two make a first appearance at MarketSW along with Dreamy Tacos, a stand co-owned by long-time DMM exhibitor Alton McDougle. A desert focus will be added by Migues Magnificent Mini-Donuts returning from July, and Thunder Beast, with hand-crafted root beer.
An enhanced outdoor bar presented by Sugar Rim Bar has been promised by Pomajambo, who is also coordinating live painting of the shipping containers which are used as storage on the site, and free art stations supplied for patrons and their families to join in the creativity. Renowned Baltimore muralist Mike WAKE will be live painting the container this month. Also returning at the Blind Whino Arts Club section will be master cigar roller Arian Castenada.
As an additional draw live music will be presented on the stage. Andy Poxon and Chris Brown will perform a blues and early rock mix from 5 to 7 p.m. and DJ Eric Disco will rock the house from 8 to 10 p.m.
Among the 30 small businesses exhibiting at the market will be: LittleTibet Boutique, SCARVELOUS, District Made Store, BAMI Products, Totally Carter Design, Pure Palette, Cherry Blossom Creative, Poppi, and Mundo Villiage. See the entire array of exhibitors and activities here!
“We strive for an internationally-connected and eclectic merchandise mix in all our markets,” said Berman, “and these exhibitors should fit into this festive setting well.” Many are also exhibitors at DMM-managed markets: The Flea Market at Eastern Market, every Sunday at 7th St. & Pennsylvania Ave. SE on Capitol Hill; SPARKET, a lunchtime arts market in Crystal City, VA Wednesdays; and The Downtown Holiday Market whose 2015 schedule was announced recently.
MarketSW is supported by Vornado/Charles E. Smith and Forest City Washington. Berman singled out Gordon Fraley, Vice President for Development for Vornado/Charles E. Smith, “for enabling MarketSW".
